1. Stars and Stripes
2. Union Jack
3. Jolly Roger
4. Federal Cross
5. Maple Leaf Flag

Ahh, 'tis better.

What's the matter, then?

1. Union Jack -- 1606
2. Jolly Roger -- ca. 1700, some date it as 1694
3. Stars and Stripes -- around 1776, although current version from 1960
4. Federal Cross -- 1889, or 1815 for earlier versions
5. Maple Leaf Flag -- 1965

In other words, I was perfectly correct.

Ranking on a timeline, yes. Power when they were at their greatest would put probably the Stars and Stripes on the top.

I was thinking of current standards, not the order in which created.

I wouldn't say pirates are a major world power these days...

Brittish were /huge/ at one time
"the sun never sets on the brittish empire"
they had colonies all around the world at one time..

now they dont ofcourse, but historically speaking..

Beatles' cronological order works well, less controversial then ranking in order of power ;)

Yes, the timeline does work better. Ruddertail, there can be many types of pirates, not just the olde-tyme pirates.

Thanks, windy. ;) Took the words out of my mouth. By sheer amount of associated tradition, a timeline-based "ranking" is quite good.

You can't really compare the USA now and the British Empire at the height of its power, especially considering that one is a republic, but the times are completely different, nukes, etc. By population percentage of the globe, probably British.

Anyways, where does that leave pirates, which aren't a nation, and are harder to gauge, and Switzerland and Canada, which pretty much just sat tight and never flexed their muscles?

I never said there weren't pirates now. There are, anywhere from people who ileagally download music to people who still do rob ships, though now they use motorboats and machine guns, rather then sailing ships and cutlasses. But, what I mean was that they weren't a major world power like they were in the 16 and 1700s. They don't have the capacity to take on the autorities, like some of the pirate groups back then.

And on that note, you are doing quite well against Maple Leaf, Ruddertail. Only person who's broken it so far, I believe.

Yep. I'd have tried to kill already, but I'm worried about the possibulity of taking it really low, and not having enough turns, so I'm trying to organise something with my clanmates...

Notice what we've been saying. Not stronger, older! :D
Nothing personal, y'know. ;)

Ah yes, well I was saying you can't compare the two, them not having ever flexed their muscles, y'see. Power, Canada, Money, Switzerland, Knives, Switzerland, and Beer, Canada. Don't y' know.
