Michaels acknowledged that "global temperatures have been warming slightly for several decades" and noted that the surface of the world "is a little bit warmer than it was in the 1930s" even though "temperatures dropped between 1940 and 1975."
"Usually, the way the jet stream breaks out is very hot in the East and relatively cool in the West or vice versa," he said. "This time around, it looks more like the summers of the 1930s," but he dismissed the idea that the extreme temperatures of that time were caused by man-made "global warming" since "it wasn't around then."
Although the recent heat wave have not convinced Michaels that "global warming" is a severe problem, it was apparently enough to make a "convert" out of conservative Christian broadcaster Pat Robertson.
"We really need to address the burning of fossil fuels," Robertson said during his "700 Club" broadcast on Thursday. The high temperatures in some regions of the U.S. East are "the most convincing evidence I've seen on global warming in a long time," he added.

How about you read the whole article next time Kraken. *laughs*. Also, the record may not have been broken in D.C., but while I was in Minn. They broke the record for the hottest day. It was 103 degrees farenheit. Or was this more sarcasm?

The Kraken, which is found primarily in Scandinavian myth, was a huge sea creature. It was said to lie at the bottom of the sea for a long time and then it would rest at the surface....Like the Midgard serpent in the Norse myths, the Kraken was supposed to rise to the surface at the end of the world.

Er... lists like that tend to have bad fact checking. *laughs*. Really, I've seen lists much like that about other subjects that have 90% of their facts wrong or more. But I'll give you this one, it is from the Goddard Space Flight Center.

Gore's not as green as he's led the world to believe.
It ain't about how hard ya hit. It's about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward. How much you can take and keep moving forward. That's how winning is done!
I don't listen to Al Gore anyway. He's so far up his own rear you'd need the Jaws of Life to get him out. I also happen to think a Carbon Neutral lifestyle is retarded. Why? Because that just means we MAINTAIN the current level of CO2 in the air, not reduce it. That means everytime a volcano erupts or something else happens that releases CO2, it means that much more CO2. Not to mention methane. We need to be carbon negative if we wish to start really making progress against global warming.
And Energy credits. OMFG. This means rich people can plant a few trees and continue to live their wasteful little lives. This really makes me want to curse. Alot. A stream of them. One after another. And no one really knows that the "credits" you buy are actually going to be worth anything, or that the little trees you plant are going to actually help clean the air of all the crud you are producing. And it does nothing to stop pollution. Has everyone forgotten about pollution? It's no longer safe to swim on some of our beaches (ocean) or in some of our lakes. America's water quality stinks. If we lost our city water purification systems, we'd all die from the crud that's in our water.
So, I don't give a hoot what Al Gore says. I still maintain that the only way to save our selves is to pour money into fusion research programs, and until that works, use fission reactors for our power, and start driving hydrogen powered cars.

A one-year change, in either direction, means little. In fact, the relationship between global warming and tropical storms is disbuated at best.
America's water quality stinks. If we lost our city water purification systems, we'd all die from the crud that's in our water.
No, we would die from microbes in the water. Even a 'pristine' mountain stream would have these waterborne illness causeing bacteria, which given a water treatment failure would kill many people.
Of course, to be fair my drinking water comes from the nearby mountain snowpack, in part by way of Lake Tahoe, which is famous for its clearity. Someone's complaints about water quality seem as forign to me as my complaints about mineing companies that fail to clean up thier slack dumps when abondoning an area.

"Program testing can be used to show the presence of bugs, but never to show their absence!"-Edsger W. Dijkstra
I'm watching a show on Discovery now, and its about Global Warming.
One thing that I never really thought about are the "feedback loops" as they call them. For example, in Antartica, the ice reflects sunlight and heat energy. If the land under the ice is exposed, the land heats up and reflects less light, causing more ice to melt faster.
Interesting really. This show is claiming that we cannot stop global warming as we are now, but atleast we can slow it enough that we don't cause a mass extinction.

Every wave be my shield, every lightning become my blade!
unfortunately with an "oscillation" it continues to oscillate even after we cannot detect it, the effects are still ongoing.
example would be the earths rotation, it is out of whack, an oscillation ’wobble’ is evident in the spinning planet.
removing or altering the oscillation could prove to be devastating to the biosphere.
If at all possible and these speculations are true;
say all the crud we humans spew into the atmosphere was "abruptly stopped " the effects would still be happening. Long after we stopped dumping into our own biosphere, we would see the effects drowning our civilization in pollutants.
When it comes to pollutants; here in Alaska ‘previous countries military dispatchments / bases , oil companies and many different chemical corporations’
have each contributed millions of tons of crap into the soil.
as of a few years ago we have been setting up miniature ‘extractors’ to pull up and burn off all the crap we find hidden in the earth
crap that these entities have buried under the tundra.
one particular field is below an 'elementry school' they must drink water from bottles.
Several states are combating ‘finds’ of old crap and pollutants, some of these our forefathers have dumped into the ground<BR> ‘burry it and its gone was the mentality’
some our current corporations have dumped and are still dumping,
aw hell if we plant a few tree‘s or give a few bribes, everything will be alright……….?
Who the hell came up with tree's I‘ll never know, bribes are however are 'criminal' and should be dealt with in the 'criminal' courts
only a few years is all it takes, to be in the clear from legal retaliation.
So they continue to dump into the earth as long as it is below the aquifers its legal
E.G. ‘pumping all sorts of crud back down the oil wells’
I've seen the needle and the damage done. "Neil Young"
I have been working in and around the oil fields for many years
long before this clean environment state thing has come into play
when drilling mud pits lined the oil patch.
The pits showed radioactive with a guider counter, one summer out in the oil patch I was eating my lunch in the cold summer sun atop a pipeway and I saw a group of men in white hardhats checking the rad levels in the pit 17 years ago.
All of those pits where buried, and only recently with this discovery of pipe corrosion ‘GROSS NEGLIGENCE ‘ (in the peasants eyes)
it’s a good time to get a oil patch job
they are all scrambling to clean it all up
before they get stuck with fines THEY WILL NEVER PAY ……!
(corperate trying to neglect the up-keep to pry yet more cash from the buisness.
I see it today all around me its old news!)
If YOU or I was to neglect million dollar fines, we would be in jail.
if you or I was to take bribes to cover up a crime, we would go to jail.
What’s so special about them?
I say we lock up the CEO’s and the polotitians, then they will think twice about polluting or taking bribes to keep the company clear of the governments prying eye's. (in peasant terms to get away with crimes)
