Suggestion: Newbie Server
Or you do a tool tip overlay type of thing. Like, you scroll over "Food: XXXX amount" and it describes details about what makes food, if you need more, what consumes food etc.

bleh.. tooltips are annoying
but less so than popups and iframes.. so its a lesser evil i guess

it might be a good idea to implement both popups and tooltip and whatever else there is.. and an option to choose which one
personally i think that a lot of stuff should be given as choices during the signup or as first time "configure me" pages
like condense output and other display based stuffs and the login method (hide me and cookies/authstring).. so that it can be set once and forgotten
instead of "annoy me with having to look at these choices every time i log on"

In all seriousness, does anyone see any value to such a server anymore? Do you think we could work within the frame of WOA, or do we need this more than ever? Keep in mind, all suggestions in this topic were made well over a year ago, back in the very begining.
If you go down to the woods today, you better not go alone

I don't think a new server would be a good idea, at least not until we get more players. The main problem is too few players. If we had more players on WOA, then there would be a lot more small ones and not so many large ones hogging the glory.
The tutorial idea holds some merit, but I think it'd be better to just flesh out the guide (some of the ideas given for the tutorial, such as having a tip pop up for the current page, are already largely the same as the way the guide is (there are links to the appropriate sections of the guide on each page), the only problem currently is that the guide is incomplete in some areas and incorrect in others). If some sort of popup tutorial was used on a first login, I think it should definitely be an opt in (or at least opt out) thing on the sign up page. Forced tutorials are very annoying when you don't need one, and there's no way to tell if a "new" player is truly new or just an old player starting a new account.
Most people have popup blockers these days, so the most reliable method would be a pop-in (one of those DIV based popups) since those are difficult to block.

Use one of them flash popup thingummiesUrran Voh wrote: What about the people that have pop-up blocker?
EDIT: A newbie server would be nice providing newbies played and oldbies didnt constantly smushel them down too low (eg limit the attacks strictly on that server, 5 per hour would probably be good) wwheras WoA is 7 attacks per warband but you can still go up to 21...

You might want to have something that informs them that they will get instructionan popups, however. That way, they can choose to unblock popups. I have a popup blocker, but if I was one a game where I got informational popups, I'd allow those, if I knew about them...
