Mandriva is nice, but too easy (for me, at least) to completely fry.

Oh yes, WaveLAN plugin and it report radically different connection strengths. (WaveLAN is right according to iwconfig). Also that it doesn't make it trivial for you to select which wireless network you want. However, once you do that, it's fine (except for actually connecting you see).
Of course, this could be due to the whole thing that wireless support tends to be totally borked anyway.
Maybe I'll poke around on the Ubuntu forums (great site) and see if I can find anything else.
