Wouldn't all of the John/Paul stuff be copyrighted till Paul's Death+95? At that rate try 2100+. And there's plenty of time to make it even longer during that duration.

I think that is only for new stuff... But I am not a copyright lawier (yet), so, I wouldn't know for sure.

Ha... Check This. out. Sony ignoreing copyright law in makeing a program to "enforce" (or rewrite) copyright law?

The viruses also only target Windows-based machines.

That software is now on about 20 million Sony BMG music discs, said SunnComm CEO Peter Jacobs. Most can be copied 3 or 4 times before the software stops the consumer, he said.

Jacobs says people just have to get used to music CDs behaving like software CDs. Consumers now expect to enter some kind of key or serial number when installing software. These prevent a consumer from stealing by passing the CD around to friends. Music CD copy protection programs have a similar effect.

and I still dont see the point of what Sony did
you can only copy the cd 4x, but.. what you do with thoes copies would, I assume, still be unrestricted.. unless the software only let you rip in a protected format that lets them keep up with what you do with the songs.. but if you can burn said files to a cd, then re-rip, the protection no matter matters.. just a few more unnessisary steps..

Actually, it was a bit more evil than that. One chap reported that when he tried to burn a new one, it locked up his drive and refused to play. At least it didn't propagate like a worm. But not, they didn't mean you to be able to get arpund this easily... That is, unless you grab a Linux distro.

Now do you think this guy honestly believes what he's saying? The high possibility that that could be true is what scares me more. I expect businesses to lie straight out to me, but if he actually believes there was nothing wrong with it...

You know, they really should have everyone file a small claims suit and just completely overload Sony with em. I would coordinate the claim filing dates too. There's a time limit on when they have to be seen (at least there is in California) so a coordinated effort would force Sony to choose between hiring 5,000 lawyers to work 12 hours a day to defend hundreds of cases each or losing a lot of small claims suits.

Their best option for defense would be to have a dedicated lawyer for each jurisdiction, but the wages required for that would be astronomical. Plus they would still face the prospect of losing every case in which the plaintiff is properly prepared.
