Let's get this back on track!

My suggestions from Neo's last proposal:

Britons change to Celts, get better spies and worse economy:

code: Select all

Tribe             Military            Spies             Economy
Celts             Very Good           Good              Poor
Phoenicians change to a spy/economy race:

code: Select all

Tribe             Military            Spies             Economy
Phoenician        Very Poor           Excellent         Excellent
Germanic becomes Goths (They aren't Visi/Ostro until post-Roman):

code: Select all

Tribe             Military            Spies             Economy
Goths            Very Good           Poor              Good
Any comments? The others need to be balanced out, as well as the above.

I was pondering this last night, I've come up with 7 races that were all in existence at the same time. If 7 is too few, I can come up with a few more. Just a suggestion mind you.

Military Spies Economy
New Kingdom Egyptians Good Poor Fair
Hebrews/Jews Poor Excellent Good
Phoenicians Poor Good Excellent
Greeks Good Fair Good
Assyrians Very good Poor Fair
Neo-Babylonians Fair Fair Good
Persians Excellent Poor Good

Not sure of balance here, but I like it. The Celts/Britons did not really come about on the world scene until during the Roman empire, same with the Goths. But if you guys REALLY want them, I can't stop you, *laughs*, but like I said I can come up with a few more.

CC Devari, but I still dont like the name change to celt. Celt agitates me.

Also, Goths were from the area around what is today known as Prussia in easter Germany/Northern Poland... wouldnt have spread that far west by this time would they?

Proto-Germanic (Germanic for ease of typing) is what i suggested due to language and cultural habits...

So, instead of Celts, would you use Britons or Gauls.

Celts are better as an all-encompassing race for pretty much all of Europe.

Britons suck. :P

So, I'd say it comes down to Gauls or Celts. The thing I like about Celts is they aren't attached to anything in particular - just mostly a group of dissociated tribes. Makes them good as a Barbarian race. I'm assuming, of course, that we want a race like that. ;)

Indeed, Neo. I was wrong with the Goths. But Germanic still remains so... generic.

Oh yes we will want a Barbarian so we can point and laugh at Gondor as he impersonates the brutish cliches attached to such a person =-P

*shrug* The island really doesnt count on any kind of scale until Roman times. Id throw it out altogether, but if we must pick id say celts in order to avoid anger over the B word and disassosciate them from our Gallic friends back on the mainland.

But Celts were primarily mainland.

And the island is basically nothing until Roman times.

Everything from The west of the Rhine down to Northern Iberia, and upwards on the island to near the middle is descendant from celtic origins...

I want to delete the island personally, but Beatles wants it.

Whyzat, Beatles? The Island is so insignificant, it isn't even funny. Pre-Roman, they influence absolutely no-one.

I think my opinion on the Britons was blown out of proportion. Although they 0wn the domains of rock'n'roll and comedy today, they weren't anything until Roman times, or at least not in contact with anyone.

So feel free to drop 'em. But what's wrong with the Celts again?

Well... Im bent on something then. If we're sticking to the theme that the Civ series presents, then why are we even asking the question as to whether or not the celts count? Are we still on that theme or have we moved to an immediate pre-roman generalization of history?

One cannot present a question without setting specific limitations, or exceptions... people like me will get confused. :P

OK, let's drop the Celts then. No, I'd much rather stick to history than Civ, Ci was just a starting point for me. It was a good starting point because many are familiar with it, as was I.
