The Guide
Please, take pity on us!
We need a guide for FAF. <- Note the Capital A
If everyone could contribute just one section, that would make a world of difference! The guide is important in keeping new members - with a crappy one, they won't know how to play.
So, I would ask our players to choose a section (or two, or three, or all of it!) to write. I'll offer my services as editor and embelisher of equation details, but I need a player to write the bulk of it. If you don't feel like writing a guide piece, please write a section on a specific strategy or a noob help manual section.
I'd like to have a guide for January 1st.

Not in forums. Some people would be wary of having to sign up on a new forum, plus having a game guide ingame is more helpful.

EDIT: On Firefox, just go to view source, and that comes with a word wrap option.
Though something explaining the locations as you can now choose your starting location in /dev.

To be placed on sign up page. To be read before user creates account. ===========
Hi, and welcome to Warbands II: Frost and Flame. We welcome you as a new member to this game and hope that your membership will be enjoyable. We have written this guide as a walkthrough to your first step in your path to success in FAF. Your journey begins now.
To begin, you must first register for an account at FAF. Let us assure you that the only personal information you need is your email address, and that we will keep your address safe. We need it only in the event that an administrator needs to contact you.
(explanation of fields)
Email Address: This blank and its accompanying verification are the only truly required fields of personal information. This serves as a way for the administrators of the game to contact you concerning your account should it be necessary. Please enter a valid and real email address. If you do not input your real address, you will not be able to play, since your initial password is emailed to you. If you use an address that you do not check regularly, there may be problems further on which may be difficult to resolve.

READ CAREFULLY
Real Name: We said this was optional. And it is. In fact, we recommend that you do not enter your true name in this blank. This field is only used when you believe it is strategically advisable to delete and restart your account. You may enter anything in this field, so long as you do not forget it. Remember to use something that would not be easy to guess.
Username/Log-In Name: This name is used only for logging in. It is what you fill into the main page, and that's it. Do not pick anything too fancy. Just choose something, lowercase and easy to type. Your first initial and last name work fine, but then so does anything else. No one else ever sees this name.
Warband Name: Do not confuse this with your actual name. This is just what you will be known to other players by in the game. It is how you will appear on the scores page. Other than that, it doesn't do much. It's recommended you pick a unique name which distinguishes you from others, being careful not to pick a name which might provoke actions against you. It's also recommended that you use the same name among several games, as you may soon develop a reputation.
In-Game Name: Technically, a "Warband Name" is the name of your empire. This is the name of the empire's leader. Since the display of this is not yet implemented, it suffices to just retype your warband name.
Password: To make sure you and only you are able to access your account, we ask you to log in. Whenever you check on your empire, you must type in a "username" and "password". Use whatever you want, but make it both memorable and secure. Currently, you cannot set your own password until you first log in with a password the game gives you. Remember to change it to something easier to type, but equally difficult to guess.
NOTE: You need both your username and password to log in. Remember both. You may keep a record of your username anywhere. It is identification and not security. On the other hand, you must reset your password when you first log on, and change it to something else. A good password cannot be guessed. Make one by taking something memorable (i.e., an obscure word or name) and appending numbers or characters of significance. For example, take the word onomatopoeia. Append the numbers 154, which is your id in some other thing (but someone hacking into your account doesn't know this, now does he?). Your password would then be "onomatopoeia154" and is rather secure. While "bagel154" is not as secure, rest assured it is enough. Something only you know instead of a word is also fine. Do not use passwords which you will not remember. Resetting it is a hassle, and requires admin intervention. On the other hand, do not use insecure passwords. "qwert", "12345", your birthdate, your pet's name, and the like do NOT make good passwords. However, something simple like "greenhampsterbadger" can be surprisingly secure. (Just don't use "greenhampsterbadger" verbatim, as it's already here.)

Race: Please pick a race for the leader of your empire. Depending on what you pick, you gain significant percentage bonuses and penalties to everyday activities such as attacking, defending, and gaining armies. Pick a race which will suit your strategy well. New players should consider badger for overall industrial power or otter for a significant attack boost. These two races work well with simple industrial strategies.
Location: Your empire is located in one of three places. You get a choice of Mossflower, or Southsward, and Northlands. Mossflower is an ideal location, with no peanlties to anything. Also, living in Mossflower gives someone a chance to get the most land targets. But, there are reasons to migrate. Those in the Northlands receive a slight industry boost and those in Southsward recieve a slight boost to leadering. Each bonus comes with a penalty to the other, and often, living in those locations reduces one's access to land. Although such an isolation is bidirectional and may stave off some would-be attackers.
Finally, remember. The game might ask for a validation code soon. Because of our new password system, this is now obsolete. Simply leave the space blank and press the button when this message appears. You only need to do this once.
