I have permanent New Mail! On my top and bottom bars, even though all my mail has been read. Its getting annoying, this is on CoG BTW.

Your new mail is loaded in JavaScript for speed. (A feature for dialup users.) Thus the 'New Mail' thingie won't disappear until you load another page.
