I'm currently looking for a good anti-virus system. My last one (Panda Platinum) slowed my computer down so much that my mom decided to remove it. Anyone know a good system?

We have Norton AntiVirus, and that works quite well. I don't think it slows down the computer, if it does, it's certainly not much of a slowdown. You might be able to download it from here http://www.symantec.com/nav/ Somewhere on that website, anyway. If not, you can get it from a Best Buy, or something comperable. It might even be at Walmart...

I use Mcafee. It warns you of virus threats, gives you virus advice, and instanty deletes any virus, worm, or trojan your computer recieves. It also has daily updates to keep out viruses and improve itself. It sped my computer up a bit also.

The only problem I've found with it is its loud beep when having been updated.

Norton is splendid. Although I've yet to have a virus. *knock on wood*
It ain't about how hard ya hit. It's about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward. How much you can take and keep moving forward. That's how winning is done!

All antivirus systems are slow.
Though the free ones seem faster without really any difference in coverage.
Back. I think.

Meh, turns out I have 2000 instead of 98. Shows how often I look at the screen on startup. :*laughs*: (Don't I feel dumb.)

It normally takes 1-2 hours to start up?

I use AVG. It's free and works well. Do you have spy-ware protection too?

Spybot Search & Destroy -- best Windows spyware remover tool.
More tips:
open up 'msconfig' from the Run dialog in start menu, and disable all the startup items you don't need
use 'BeClean' http://boozet.xepher.net/ to clean it a little.
