streamtuner - very nice program.. lists thousands of internet radio stations and allows you play them with any music player, I use xmms (like winamp) for mine, it's also not a resource hog

kbear - good ftp program

rhythmbox - spiffy music player, setup is close to iTunes

xmms - as above, like winamp, skinnable, light, works well

gxine - great movie player, runs off (ofcourse) xine

Crossover Office - not close to free, but a well done program still in the making.. allows you to easily install ms office, photoshop 7, windows media player, quicktime, shockwave, and more plugins for browsers including firefox.. and ofcourse quite a bit more.. trail lasts for 30 days, I've got 20 left..

I'll look up the links ina bit if anyone is interrested but too lazy to google 'em

add on if you wish

ksnapshot - a great program to take screenshots with powerful functionality. I sometimes use it instead of the GIMP if I only want to crop images. :P

bash_completion - lets you complete practically any and every program's syntax on the shell, simply wonderful...

fnfx - if you have a Toshiba laptop like I do, makes Fn-keybindings work.

Gaim - IM client for multiple protocols including MSN and AIM. Also for Windows, if you are so inclined.

WINE - Or, WINdows Emulator. Allows you to run SOME windows applications with varying amounts of success. Regardless, it is still useful.

Kwrite - Seriously, this is a handy little editor. Syntax colouring, as easy to use as Notepad, tons of options. Great for a developer or for quick little text documents.

OpenOffice(.org) - A MS Office-like suite. Mostly compatible with Word, Excel, and Powerpoint. Heck, I've had worse compatability problems with different versions of Word. :D Also available for Windows.

Opera - Free, but free version contains ads. Nice browser, apparently faster than Firefox according to SOME tests. Also available for Windows, as well as an ad-less version (if you pay).

How about games? I only have found one so far:

Battle for Wesnoth - Interesting game - very simply to use and operate, and yet quite challenging. The game is almost entirely in story-driven campaigns where units advance in power, similar to a RPG. I find it quite fun, but some people may not like the character-building aspects. Also available for Mac and Windows, although Windows binaries are made slower than Linux or Mac.

Bzflag (http://www.bzflag.org) Nice little multi-player tank shooter. Avable for a number of platforms, including Linux, Mac, Windows, and Irix (sp?)

VegaStrike (http://vegastrike.sourceforge.net) Cross platform space shooter/trade game.

Although I will admit that the OSS comunity lacks a good RTS engine or game.

I forgot to add - Wesnoth is a turn-based fantasy game with old-school RPG-esque graphics. Kind of neat looking, but some may be turned off by that.

Yeah, there isn't much in the way of a OSS RTS engine. Even an Age of Empires knock-off would be welcome. :D

Great (little) games on linux:

xkoules -- bounce the balls out, and then the balls get on steroids

kspaceduel -- ooh, fun game

lbreakout -- breakout initially, but it becomes obvious it's smoked some heavy stuff

[edit]
zina -- Zina Is Not Andromeda: simply wonderful music collection managing tool, with tons of options... it's wonderfully and beautifully configurable, but is intelligent too.
