Have heard of the Civilization series of games? They are designed by Sid Meier. I've only played the third in the series (Aptly named Civilization III) but from that I'd say it's a great game series. You start at the Dawn of Time (4000 BC) and have 500 turns to build your Civilization into "One that can stand the test of time!" (Paraphrase). In this time you have to research Technologies, build units, build city improvments, wage war, build great wonders, trade and manage your civilization. Beleive me, it's no easy task. Turns are not FAF turns, it can take me as long to take one turn on Civ III as it does to make a run on BFR. It can be played online with the Civ III: Play the World or Civ III: Conquests expander packs. So, do any of you play? If so, favorite units, Civs, playing level? A website with some info is www.civ3.com, though it hasn't been updated for a while, since Civ III is several years old and they are working on Civ IV now...

Where did you get that update? Is that a downloadable thingy? It would be really nice to have, I can never get though the all the Modern Times techs...

I'd have to say Germany would be my favorite nation as well. Scientific and militeristic, fits my playing style exactly. (Out tech 'em, get top o' the line units, and smash 'em.) (That's got to be the most " ' "s I've ever used in one sentance :*laughs*: ) I run Monarchy untill I get to the Industrial Age, then swich to Fascism. Get that worker bonus and the extra supported units. Only downside is by then if I'm doing well I have thousands of Gold piling up, and I can no longer use to rush things... I normally play at Warlord, I get 2 hours max on the computer, and with FAF and other online things, I don't get to play Civ for more then a half hour or so each day. Otherwise I'd probably be better.

I have vivid memories of my school's computer lab, where all the "cool kids" were embroiled in Starcraft, and the "pale bookworm skinny kid" was being uncool playing Civ 3 -- that was me.
BUT I whupped them 3 years later at Starcraft, so go figure. :)

[edit] This must have been 1999-2000. (depending on which version). Or even 1998 for Civ 2 perhaps.

I've personally never played the CIV games. It sounds like I would like them though. I spent majority of my gaming time in 1999-2000-2002-2003...(early)2005 playing the best computer game of all time AOE2!!!!!! Muhahaha! I absolutely love it... It could really use some updating with the online stuff though... And I recently found out that they are finally coming out with AOE3... Its look incredible!

Heh, me as well. Although, I cheat at that game some times. They make it soooo easy.

AOE is fun. I also like turn-based games like Battle for Wesnoth and the Total War series.

I used to play Civ 3 and all of the AOEs. Great games.

Is Rome: Total War a good game?

Rome: Total War got really high ratings. I only have Shogun, and that game is challenging for me. Plus my computer's a tool so it is extremely slow.

AOE is awesome. It would be really awesome if my graphics card supported AOM, but oh well.
