Could the amount of runes needed to scout, forage, loot, and other things that have to do with hawks, be lowered? I hawk scouted 10 times = 20 turns (no problem there) and it took 1,000,000 (1 million) runes!!!!! Isn't that a bit much?

In a word, no. Balancing issues - historically hawks have been overpowered. There is no way that we will help them any more.

If you want to lower the number of runes required for casting just wait til you're at low land. Land drastically influences how much spells cost. Magic towers also have a small influence on spell cost.

That's why you should always wait until after you've been attacked to feast or loot, and build up loyalty while you are gaining land.

However, I've found that the more land you have, the better your yeilds for hawk missions. So really, the thing is that using a lot of hawk missions is only profitable if you are pretty much pure hawk.

Or just have a balance of the two. Have a reasonably low amount of land, build up Runes and use them on your next turn run, or just use them then.

Land does not affect money gained from ToG or corn. The things that do affect it are:

1: Number of mages
2: Racial magic bonus
3: Health
4: % of your land in mage towers

You are absolutely correct in the pure hawk idea.

That's why you should always wait until after you've been attacked to feast or loot, and build up loyalty while you are gaining land.

That is good advice for people trying to learn maging.

That's what I meant. The more land you have, the more hawks you can get (assuming you build it into huts) the more hawks, the more yeilds.

In my experience, the most efficient method of maging is to go 100% mage towers, grab up a bunch of land, and make mana and mages. After you get hit down a bit you start casting ToG. Food is provided by buying off the PM or casting cornacopia.

FYI you gain the same food if you cast corn or if you cast ToG and use the money to buy grains off the BM. Corn costs a little les mana so it's a bit more efficient.

Just so you know, foraging here has been greatly de-powered (for lack of better term). It's not profitable at all, you're better off buying off the bazzar or public market. Except the bazzar always runs out quickly, and there's never much on the market. So I normally have to forage anyway.
