Suggestion: Scout out, rather then delete

As the game always seems land starved, I would suggest that, when a warband reaches the point at which it would be deleted, it is automaticly scouted out of protection, thus adding much needed land to the game. It will then restart the delete counter, and be deleted when it reaches the proper point.

I actually prefer what Nuclear Raunch said about a game he played at: you could attack dead people for land.

True, but if people are killed, they have no land, and if people die of inactivity before they use turns, they only have 250 acres. Not much.

If they're killed, the land stays in the game anyways. If they die of inactivity or delete, the land is still there. Parfait.

Unless they had at least decent quantaties of land, it wouldn't be very profitable to attack a dead person. With 64 abandoned accounts on COG right now, there could be a lot of accounts with 3-5k land that no one attacked. Some people don't bring in that much land into the game while in protection. Giving an extra 20 land or so per turn scouting until all deleted accounts have 0 land seems to be the best idea.

I think the whole point in giving the ability to take a dead empire's land is to stop people deleting with a lot of land to just be spiteful (or stupid)
then again, that person could just drop the land.. making all abandoned hordes scout for the rest of their turns is almost a bit much.. more land is one thing, but overloading the game is another..

I donno, I like landfarms myself.. dead land and deleted land get sent to it... an idea for it could be give it a bit of land at a time, like a funnel.. the landfarm can only get 5k land a day, the rest gets left in storage, and given to the land farm in 5k per day increments till theres none left in storage.

I'd say that they're just put into a dead state. Otherwise the game could become landfat, which really ruins strategy. Someone who deletes or is abandoned and has a considerable amount of land will probably be hard to take from. A troop-less abandoned signup would be something like 6-8k easy acres, fattening the game considerably.

So, I'd say abandoned/deleted empires are open game, but empires that died in protection should just be erased.
