if you've got time, do Gnome for comparision please.. kinda curious
's interesting though, xfce apparently doesnt idle back down as well after using an app.. KDE comes back within 1mb every time, xfce between 3-4mb... then take into account KDE is running at 25mb more thats not as bad..
*shrugs*
nice test Devari

Yeah, modularity is very nice.
The idle thing was interesting; I wasn't going to do that until I realized XFCE never completely went back to normal.
GNOME... I could do that. I only have 2.6, though. There seems to be no easy way to upgrade these things...
I suppose a final note is that I don't run any kind of desktop in XFCE. Just a plain background when all is minimized.

If you go down to the woods today, you better not go alone

What the...?!?!
GNOME - 102 MB
GNOME + Firefox - 123 MB
GNOME (idle) - 103 MB
GNOME + KWrite - 113 MB
GNOME (idle) - 108 MB
GNOME + XMMS - 109 MB
GNOME (idle) - 108 MB
GNOME + Gaim - 113 MB
GNOME (idle) - 108 MB
Why the heck is GNOME such a memory hog?! It isn't even running KDE services or anything. Maybe 2.10 is better, but 2.6 is awful! KDE looks nicer, does more, starts faster, and uses less memory. XFCE looks nicer, starts much faster, and uses a heck of a lot less memory.
Ug. GNOME is teh suxx0rz.
