I'm pondering redoing some sections (and finishing others) of a site I built and maintain (volunteer)
http://www.mahahounds.org
wanted some suggustions on it, I'll probably poke it in two weeks (after my exams.. which are wayy too close for comfort..)
so yeah
what is good, what needs to be changed, and what would make it better?
edit: made link work

It looks a good site altogether, just a few things come to mind:
1. Some fonts are small compared to the rest of the fonts (e.g. calendar). The Breeds page has larger fonts than Info, etc. Info btw is a great page/subsite.
2. Some things are too widely spaced, perhaps. I believe less spacing makes a site look more professional.
3. The links on the side are images; which is inconvenient if the user wants to resize them; you can get the same neat effect with some javascript or blink or whatever tags, and plain text.
4. The forum theme doesn't tie in with the site main theme, and in addition is in a separate window.
5. Some of the images on the Links page have obviously been resized; so some are sharp and some are blurry.

not a bad site, if your into the genre.
i would change the color scheme of it though. the blue is too loud and the other colors clash therin.
i would suggest using browns and soft hues. it is a site about dogs.

all about FAVRE, come on...you know you want to click it
The Kraken, which is found primarily in Scandinavian myth, was a huge sea creature. It was said to lie at the bottom of the sea for a long time and then it would rest at the surface....Like the Midgard serpent in the Norse myths, the Kraken was supposed to rise to the surface at the end of the world.

calendar code is copied and pasted from ipb, and if I change the fonts on it it'll be a bit too big to fit
I meant the fonts to be mostly the same, shall look into it

give example of a page with too much spacing?
3. The links on the side are images; which is inconvenient if the user wants to resize them; you can get the same neat effect with some javascript or blink or whatever tags, and plain text.
why would the user want to mess with my page?
going to redo the side images anyways, the pink is going to be replaced with orange
shall look for the javascript stuff

I would skin the forum if it was going to be used..
they said they'd use it, but ah well.. I may remove the link from the sidebar
if it gets any use I'll reskin, but otherwise its not worth the effort

most of the sites didnt have an 'official' logo I could use, and if they did it was rather small, and I didnt want to leave a blank spot, so I found somthin that could work and resized it
may go back and try to smooth some of them out a bit
thanks!

color scheme will probably stay as is 'cause I'm lazy and this one works alright
its light and.. well, happy = P
although it is a site for dogs, not all are brown.. infact, most arnt.. more white really
the light blue may be a bit much though.. hum

that was the original site.. I kinda scrapped that version infavor of mine, as it just felt disorganized and the code was done in frontpage..
Thanks!

Overall Design is quite good. I agree with Beatles on the left hand navigation bar. Plain text loads faster, and degrades better, which matters if the the person browsing the page is using a text based browser (rare, but not unknown), or is using a screen reader or magnifer.

The blue is a good color scheme, yep, although lightening it up a touch might be better. Cheerio!windhound wrote: 2. Some things are too widely spaced, perhaps. I believe less spacing makes a site look more professional.

The Info page is excellent.

Well, for accessibility. I routinely resize many webpages because their fonts are unreadable. Granted, that's not a problem with yours at all; it's very good on the eyes.
