Theme Switching #3
Well, the last poll has narrowed it down to two categories - Historical and "Based upon a popular book series".
Now, I'd like anyone who cares to take a shot at it to write up a little proposal for a theme. We don't need specifics (yet), just a general idea of how it would work.
From voting in both polls, Historical won by a large margin. So proposals for that will be given priority in consideration.

I personally like the Ancient Mediteranean/Middle East theme, as layed out below. It's very basic, but gives a general idea.
For a historical:
Mediterainian/Gulf area.
Tribes:
Romans
Greeks
Carthginians
Germanic tribes (2 - 3)
Persians
Arabic tribes (2 - 3)
Israel? (The weren't a major power at the time of Rome, but, then again, neither was anybody else, except Carthage... Israel did have some major power before that, however.)
Troops... um...
Swordsmen:
Archers
Spearmen
Galleys
Magic people... I don't know.

It's rather incomplete, but here is my idea:
Proposal: Northern Conquests of Rome
Genre: Historical
Region of History: Gaul, Briton, Germania, Belgica , Spain, Italy
Description: Essentially, Rome against the "barbarian hordes". Races would include such things as Visigoths, Gauls, and Britons. Sub-races (tribes) would be a new feature, each tribe giving different additional bonuses/deficits. For example, we could have two Gaulish tribes, "Lugdunum" and "Asterix". The Asterix would have additional bonuses to attack and defense, sacrificing trade. The Lugdunum tribe would have the opposite - significant trade but poor attack/defense.
Some tribes would be "domesticated" - that is, allied to Rome. Allied Tribes and Roman sub-groups would be able to attack eachother, but only four times per day. This is to keep the game from the Vermin-Goodbeast fiasco that happened on FAF, and can be justified by explaining this as one of the frequent powergrabs among rivals. Domesticated tribes would tend to be weaker on attack/defense but stronger on trade/farming.
Romans would have tribes as well, just called something different.
New Features Required: Minor tweaks, tribes. Difficulty Ratings: Easy, Easy
New Features Recommended: Advanced Cities (something I was already thinking of for 3.0), Defense Organization (already planned) Difficulty Ratings: Difficult, Moderate
New Features Possible: Formations (Especially for Romans), Leaders (sorta like heroes) Difficulty Ratings: Moderate, Difficult
Any questions? Does anyone actually like this idea?

's true. How about the attack limit increases based on the proportion of domesticated to wild tribes? Or perhaps a limit on domesticated tribes - based on the number of Romans at the time?

You would have to break Rome into the Latins and the Sabines. Also, you could inclued the Etruscans. The formations idea sounds good, although it will be a challenge to decided on which ones to use.

Yeah, that would work for me. I was more thinking along the lines of breaking up the Romans into political factions, but racial partitioning could work as well.

Pre-set alliances are really cheap in the civ-games. I don't know how many times I got destroyed by people who take an alliance in the beginning and run right over every one else.
