I know what you mean, yes... In some humor, tone and spacing is everything. Subtlety can be hilariously funny. I guess that's why I like British humor, or that's why my humor has been described as dry.

^w^v

I'm sure you meant to use a 'v', not a 'w' there. That is, if you meant Hungarian.

Polish, actually. Similar word in Hungarian, then?

Filters are here to protect the ears of ones too young to hear such words, FWF for example. :P

Filters should stay the way they are unless Beatles and Devari find a way to make each person have the filter adjusted to their liking, as mentioned above.

Of course, in-game filters would be first priority. Along the idea of persistent accounts, why not have a "group" (similar to a unix group) that has varying levels of "permissions". By default, a persistent account would start with a moderate level of filtering (the current level, minus the short form of damnation). The administrators can adjust the level of filtering on a user based on their behavior - from extremely strict to none at all. At the worst, the person would be banned from messaging and from in-game forum posting.

If we still allow non-persistent accounts, filtering will be set at maximum.

Still, we could potentially use the "usergroup" idea in a different way with persistent accounts, even if it does not have anything to do with filtering. I'd like to get away from the silly $user[disabled] way of doing things, as it is quite difficult for a programmer foreign to the Promisance Way and unintuitive.

sounds more work for the admin unless you can automate it somehow

prehaps on the signup page you can put a dropdown box with options for filtering, or do it by age..

but yeah.. word filters are kinda needed in anyplace that younger folk may go.. if their parents walk up behind them and see a page full of words they'd rather not see we loose a member..

I don't forsee that it would be any more effort than banning someone, and at least it keeps the player. Besides which, most people would be good with static settings.

Although, in terms of automation, we could always write a small script that looks at a list of "warning words" and if they're used too much in one message than the level increases. For example, if you used the short form of damnation far too much in a message, your filtering would go up a notch.
