In Canada, we've had a few. Two that come to mind foremost were Tommy Douglas and Pierre Trudeau. But that is subjective. ;)

A good politician since 1980? Look no further then Ronald Regan. One of the best presidents, in my mind. George W. Bush isn't bad, either. Not as great as Regan, or some of the great presidents of the past, like Lincoln or Washington, but not a bad president, as they go.

Was there really any doubt about Regan? The fact still remains that most politions are more worried about thier jobs, image and finances that working. Anyway, Im done here...not going to start a full blown dispute.

It really depends on the viewpoint of the person. I don't think Reagan and W are too hot, personally. But, at the same time, many on Canada's Right intensely dislike Trudeau and Douglas. Still, in Canada, MOST of us can agree that there really haven't been any stellar politicians in the 90s or 00s.

Are you thinking policies, or character, Devari? I can see you disagreeing with Regan's policies, but I don't think there's much question he was a great leader, or great at uniting the people of America.

Can't comment on personality since I don't know much outside of policy, so, yes, policies. :)

Well, the definition of Modern Era is sometimes used to denote anything after 4000 BC. Which, as far as honest politicians goes, is a good estimate of since when we've last had one.
