I was in the laptop pilot section first year I had my laptop, meaning I took my laptop to certain classes.. the battery got drained and charged somtimes twice a day, which is not optimal for long battery life

the T-42p with the larger battery (roughly 2x the size, sticks out the back about an inch and a half) probably gets the 4-5 hours, I dont think mine, even with power saving, ever got more than 3..

my roommates' dells' battery now refuses to hold a charge for more tha 15 seconds, and its a few months younger than mine :P

that's the normal state of my desktop.. slight caution, I left the image at its full size..

I dont understand the whole love of keeping things tidy... everything out within easy reach is awesome..

but yeah, try linux. it works well, given you've patence and time to learn somethin' new

If you want to try Linux you could try this to get an idea of which distribution to try.

heh. that test told me to use Fedora ;)

if you want to /try/ linux, download slax (http://slax.linux-live.org/)
its a livecd, meaning it wont touch your harddrive, and when you shutdown its like it was never there (runs itself from ram and off the cd, so it might be a bit slowish, but still gives you a good idea)

knoppix and xfld are also decent live disks..

Anyone hear about this distro:
http://ultimapcs.dyndns.org/ultimalinux/

Any good for my P166? OR should I stick with RH 7.2?

I have an old 150Mhz laptop. I loaded an old version of slackware on it. You may want to look into fvwm95 for the window manager. It went pretty fast. :*laughs*: I would think anything like slackware would be good.

You could try Vector Linux, it's really good, but reset the GTK+ theme, because the default one is slow as molasses.
