Unlikely, China doesn't have ambitions much further than exerting power over surrounding regions in order to keep itself safe. And if China does emerge as a superpower despite that, it will not be alone. I don't see the US collapsing any time soon. And you do realize that their GDP is half ours right? It's not growing particularly quickly either. They'll prolly catch us in about 30 years, and pass us for good in another 20. So make that 50 years before they become the largest economic power on earth. If they survive that long in their present form, I will be mightily surprised.

I'd not be surprised at that at all. Plus consider the economic influence they have. If their exports stopped, for whatever reason, the US consumer market would be crippled.

But back on track: do you think the current democracy is truly keeping the government on track? 'Cos I don't think it's working. And if this were a world-wide hegemony, it would only get worse. Imagine the RIAA/MPAA getting their will all over the Earth. No more of your patent-violating Linux packages hosted in France, oh no.

I don't think we would have ended up this way with a world hegemony. We wouldn't have Linux. There would have been no Cold War and no space race. Things would have been so much different, and I think the American government, circa WW2 could have handled it. Alot of the problem with today's government is the culture we live in that lets them get away with this stuff. Most of this would never have flown in that era, and I think we would have changed alot slower. Besides, if we did have world hegemony, it would be the United States of the World, and the state of France would have just as much say as the state of Indiana. And they're be Representatives from there in the House and the Senate.

Yes, we'd have it bad for a bit if China stopped exporting to us. But think of how bad CHINA would have it. In terms of fractions of imports and exports, they ship a much larger percentage of their total exports to us than we receive from them in relation to our total imports. Just like Canadian oil makes up 50% of our oil imports but 90% of Canada's oil exports. And the thing is, they couldn't replace us as a trading partner, but we could make all this stuff for ourselves, it'd just be more expensive. We are still the most heavily industrialized nation on earth.

The Kraken, which is found primarily in Scandinavian myth, was a huge sea creature. It was said to lie at the bottom of the sea for a long time and then it would rest at the surface....Like the Midgard serpent in the Norse myths, the Kraken was supposed to rise to the surface at the end of the world.

I do not support any modern communism, socialism, or captialism or anytype of government/economic system that does not work for the common good of all mankind.

Democracy is a great system. It works good, becaus it involves the people that live in it. The one major flaw is that if people don't vote, then the system becomes corrupt and falls. Socialism and Communism both require that the government become the centralized force of the country. Yes, we all know this but there is one thing that all these have in common. Corruption...

If any of you people have ever watched Star Trek, what type of government do they have? They don't have money, people work to gain food and to help the greater good. Neccessites of life are provided and there is no poverty and unemployment. Their is no class system, and no religious percecution. There are no or very few crimes committed because they have very little greed and envy. Obvioulsy, they have a type of communism. But not one that completly dissolves the rights of the people that live in it.

If individual government want to coexist on this planet, or any other, they must stop trying to convert everyone to their gov't. It is almost no different that trying to convert native africans, americans, indians, ect to christanity. Or any other religion. I don't care what type of economic/governmental system I live in, as long as the people who run the country/world all decide to conform to one type of government. It is stupid to think that unless people, not muslims, europeans, asians, africans, or americans, but people as a whole to survive as a race in a democratic or any other type of government, we must work together. So no...The worlds democracies, or even the US's is not helping the situation.

Heck...instead of trying to convert Iraq to democracy, why don't we make them work towards making and becoming the very first piece of a world wide democracy or something like that.

One planet, One Government, One race of humans...

Just as in software, homogeneity is not the solution, but rather standards. What I mean is that we do not have to be under the same system, but we should all conform to a set of basic values (legal, really, but it would be based on morality anyways if everyone has to agree) which would be enforceable in all countries/states/units. Then add to that a set of basic living standards, etc. Similar to what the EU is doing, but in a way that would be truly more effective. The EU, however great, has to compromise to reality (read: history) somewhat. Now, I think the world is gradually moving to that point, although very slowly, and I could be quite wrong.

But if there is such a system, it doesn't matter what local government is, since you can just go to another region with a different style of government. Plus, governments that are cumbersome to adapt to this "world standards" would eventually be weeded out automatically.
