I was very disappointed with both sides. Where has the concept of fair play gone? When a striker gets close to your goalpost, you don't mow him down, dammit! This isn't bloody American football!
The commentators were talking all kinds of 'ruined the game' and other crap, but personally, I think he should have given out more yellow cards. Of course, these were US commentators, and said things like "if an opposing player comes toward you, yeah you gotta push him down or trip him up." WHAT KIND OF TALK IS THAT? (Oh, and they kept calling the game 'soccer'.)
I do hope neither team wins the Cup. In fairness, Italy was worse. And yes, I think the USA's first red card should have been a yellow.
Fortunately, not all teams play like this. The England v. Trinidad and Tobago game was beautifully played by both sides. So was Brazil v. Croatia.

I just watched the last few minutes of USA-Italy, and I must say I am quite disappointed in the play from the Italian side. They dominated, and should have been able to pull of the win.
Brazil and Croatia was a beautiful game. Haven't seen T&T vs. England, but I'm sure it was as well.
THREE RED CARDS. That is so horribly wrong. The USA and Italy have issues - I certainly won't be cheering for either of them. Personally, I hope they both miss the 16s.
I'd like to see the Czechs beat Italy, and the Ghanians beat the US!
Ghana was a very pleasent surprise - and there has been a few this World Cup!
And, yah, Volkov, playing like American Footballers makes for a match with three red cards. So, no, it doesn't work.

Thoughts from my first futbol experience:
U.S. shoulda subbed in a fresh legged offensive player (not sure on positions) to take advantage of an open field with winded players.
One pf the long haired Italian player is a terrible actor, but his antics get the job done.
U.S. was dominant early on taking shots, advancing ball etc, but never capitalized. Most of the game was played in front of Italy's goal and the only score was knocked in by an Italian.
The black guy with dreads for the U.S. uses his hands way too much, especially early on.
No player ever thinks they deserved a foul/card.
Conditioning for the U.S. was kinda crappy, especially compared to Italy. That could have been because they were shorthanded they had to run more than Italy, I dunno. Someone with more futbol experience than me (read; 95% of the world's population) can probably say whether that's true or not.
Brian McBride gets fed a lot of header oppurtunities. If he could capitalize on one or two the U.S. might be OK.
Not winning didn't help the US much (although it did keep them alive). If I'm not mistaken now they need to win and an Italy win to advance.
Oh yeah, US passing sucks. They blew a few shots on bad passes.

Bah, that wasn't what I had in mind when I suggested that playing like a football player might be a good strategy. Hehe. They called it soccer. I love it. So who won that game anyway?

all about FAVRE, come on...you know you want to click it
The Kraken, which is found primarily in Scandinavian myth, was a huge sea creature. It was said to lie at the bottom of the sea for a long time and then it would rest at the surface....Like the Midgard serpent in the Norse myths, the Kraken was supposed to rise to the surface at the end of the world.

Such a pity, that '54 match.
