Nope, am I way off base then? Have heard some say it was a bit freer in regards to personal privacy/freedoms and considering what little I know of their culture it made sense to me. How bad is it there anyway?

Woohoo I finally found the bugger. the country was called the Republic of Indian Stream, and they invaded Canada because one of their citizens had been thrown in a debtors prison over a hardware store debt.

Australia is the US with a tan and permanent buzz. 
Also, it wasn't the Canadians who fought the War of 1812 with America Devari. Technically you didn't fight in any wars until 1989 when Canada became it's own country. But not the point, thing is, you ran and hid like little babies while you got the Brits to fight your war for you.
And we didn't lose. Everyone thinks that because they burned down Washington D.C. They negotiated a peace treaty which didn't resolve anything true, but neither side surrendered, and just like the War of Independence, the Brits gave up. Course most of that was because they were dealing with Napoleon at the time. *laughs*. But no, they burnt down the White House, and then got chased off, and then we kicked their butts in New Orleans. So I'd say it was a tie. But that's just me.
I think the flame of liberty still burns pretty bright here in the US, and it's slowly being lit all over the world. In terms of civil liberties, despite what the government says, it's not going to affect most US citizens much. Actually we are freer now than at many points in our past.

It was said to lie at the bottom of the sea for a long time and then it would rest at the surface....Like the Midgard serpent in the Norse myths, the Kraken was supposed to rise to the surface at the end of the world.
