Calling all Avengers fans!

So, I'm a pretty new fan of the show. Which seasons or what aspect of the show did you prefer, Volkov? I like its style the most: all of the productions I thought of as having style were blown out of the water by it in comparison: Men in Black, Clint Eastwood, The Matrix, James Bond, etc.

Well I think I'm with you, it's style. The only ones I've seen that even come close to matching it were the early James Bonds, especially when Sean Connery was Bond.

From the very few I saw a few years back, it really is great. I'd go with Volkov, and say that really only the Connery Bond films came close - but even then, Steed is just so much more awesome than James. Besides which, it is nice to have a spy film thingy where the woman isn't simply some ditzy sex object hero or villain.

I'd agree though, it really is all about the style. I find that Steed especially just seems so much more... I'm not sure, really. Awesome? I'm not sure there is actually a word for it...

You said it, Devari, as did the actor who played Steed -- Patrick Macnee -- before you: Bond always treated women as dirt. That didn't help their on-screen presence. Emma and other partners were completely emancipated, sophisticated and intelligent. All this only brought Emma into a much better light than the "objects" in Bond films.

And I completely agree with you, there's a surfeit of tough, frowning, machismo heroes. Steed is refinement, elegance, smiles, kindness and absolute cool (as is Emma). Retaining the good qualities of traditional heroes but dropping the bad ones.

Awesome is the best approximation of a word we have, yes. :)

Avengers fans!?! Wooo!!
i am so one of them!!

i got like, issue #7 through #84 and then #100 through the end where they restarted back to Zero and then like kept the original number hidden but apart of it and i quit collecting them because i was pissed off.
but!
the original team is something worth debate!
the Hulk, Iron Man, Thor, Wasp and Ant Man made an awsome team. but the Hulk was obviously too unstable to be on anyones team. *laughs*. HULK SMASH and all that...
but! along comes Captian America by Issue #4 and BAM! the team seems right. the Hulk leaves by this point btw...

but! im sure everyone on this thread knows it already! being AVENGERS Fans!

The Kraken, which is found primarily in Scandinavian myth, was a huge sea creature. It was said to lie at the bottom of the sea for a long time and then it would rest at the surface....Like the Midgard serpent in the Norse myths, the Kraken was supposed to rise to the surface at the end of the world.

The James Bond books predate the Avengers, however.

True. Remember I told you about Colville? He also recorded in his diaries an evening with Fleming. But film is still a different medium than novels, so the Avengers did have a lead there.

Arthus, you mean the UK Avengers or the US Avengers? John Steed & Co. or random assortment of comic superheroes?

[edit] Avengers beat Bond by one year. First Avengers: '61, first Bond film: '62. Though, technically, Bond beats Avengers to screen. There was a TV program of Casino Royale made in '54. See here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/James_Bond It's not considered "official" though because EON didn't make it.
