No, you still don't get it. Yes, it is statistically most probable for us to live when there are most humans. But that is not a certainty, we may as well be living in a period when there are remarkably few humans. You can't turn "most likely" into "certain", which is what you're doing.
... There is, and you just said so two posts above: heat death. I won't bother with the rest of your second paragraph as it follows from there. And opinions are irrelevant to the argument.

There's alot of time between now and the heat death of the Universe Beatles. ALOT of time. And the universe is very, very, VERY big. So how big do you think the population can get before the Universe dies? I'm willing to bet it would be very large.
Hehe. this is true, I am replacing it with certain later on. Was wondering if you'd catch it. But the thing is, at some point the most likely does turn into certain. Let's just set the likelihood of me being alive right at the point of highest population at 75%. You and I both being alive now increases the likelihood that this is the point of highest population. Let's say by 2%. Now let's add another person that I know. And another. And another, etc. At some point the likelihood of all of us being alive at this point in time makes the probability that this is the point of highest population 100%.

First paragraph: That's utterly and entirely irrelevant to our discussion.
Second paragraph: You're still ignoring the fact that you are making an assumption about something while only knowing a part of it. Your assumption that this is the most populous period in history is bogus, period.
Besides which, I've already rebutted the doomsday argument to you (6 posts back, you silently dropped the topic), so our discussion is veering toward the pointless.

I'm just arguing to be contrary now. *laughs*.(And actually I'm just playing the devil's advocate here, I see the same holes in the theory that you do, but it's a very hard theory/idea/hypothesis to refute, because the future is unknowable.)
But your rebuttal has the same problem. You also only know part of it and so are making the assumption that humanity's population can go higher. So your assertion that this is not the most populous period is bogus as well.Second paragraph: You're still ignoring the fact that you are making an assumption about something while only knowing a part of it. Your assumption that this is the most populous period in history is bogus, period.
How? I'm simply saying that the amount of time between now and heat death gives enough time for humanity to reach any theoretical upper limit, if one exists, and the amount of space available means that the size of that population could approach infinity.First paragraph: That's utterly and entirely irrelevant to our discussion.
You never responded to my rebuttal of your rebuttal.Besides which, I've already rebutted the doomsday argument to you (6 posts back, you silently dropped the topic), so our discussion is veering toward the pointless.

No it isn't, there is a difference. You're saying "this is humanity's most populous period", I'm saying that's false. That's not the same as saying it isn't, but rather that it mightn't be.
Arbitrarily large isn't infinity, not in space, not in time, not in population.
That's what I've been doing for the lasta 12 bloody posts!

Then don't say I've dropped the topic when I haven't!!!
The only constraint is time, because the universe is infinite. The VISIBLE universe has a size, but the UNIVERSE which is everything, is infinitely large. So how big do you want the population to get? But that's not even the point anymore.Arbitrarily large isn't infinity, not in space, not in time, not in population.
And there's know way to know which of us is correct. So my statement holds just as much value as yours. No it isn't, there is a difference. You're saying "this is humanity's most populous period", I'm saying that's false. That's not the same as saying it isn't, but rather that it mightn't be.

No, it doesn't. You're asserting "this is humanity's most populous period", I'm asserting "it might not be", not, as it seems to have been understood, "it isn't". Never mind, we basically agree on it though.
Well, we actually don't know that the Universe is infinite. Some think yes, some think no.

Well if the Universe is everything everywhere, then it has to be infinite, doesn't it? Otherwise there's something outside the Universe. But if the Universe is everything, then there can't BE anything outside the Universe. Now of course, the visible Universe, that is finite. Very very very VERY big, but has definite edges.

Nobody said the universe is everything everywhere. Many people believe the universe is only one of several systems outside of spacetime, possibly connected by singularities such as black holes. This isn't science fiction, it's one of many theories -- about which we will likely never know anything, by the way.
But the question of whether the Universe is finite is formally unknown.

The Kraken, which is found primarily in Scandinavian myth, was a huge sea creature. It was said to lie at the bottom of the sea for a long time and then it would rest at the surface....Like the Midgard serpent in the Norse myths, the Kraken was supposed to rise to the surface at the end of the world.

Yes, the fact that we are constantly polluting the air and water that we and OTHERS breathe and drink (respectively, of course) is F-ing HILARIOUS! :*laughs*: :*laughs*: :*laughs*: :*laughs*: :*laughs*: :*laughs*: :*laughs*: :*laughs*: :*laughs*: :*laughs*: :*laughs*: :*laughs*:

o good grief, we are NOT the cause of global warming you doofus!
a SInGLe volcano eruption, like in 1883, Krakatoa, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Krakatoa
or Mount St. Helens, just one of them released more green house gasses than the entire industrialised world for a 100 years could of done!
my god men!

I don't give a damn about global warming, the fact is, we are destroying the environment, and for more than just ourselves. Sorry, humanity still needs to eat, breathe, and drink. If we continue to poison our water and air on a daily basis, without end, what future do we have as a species? The Earth can take a lot of abuse, and has taken a lot of abuse, but it can only heal so fast. Do you think that is funny?
