I may be wrong, but I think Kraken's just having fun trolling. His posts have some of the troll trademarks, designed to incite emotion and/or response without actually contributing anything.

Yup. If he hadn't stirred you all up so much, you would have noticed it earlier. I was going to make an insightful comment here, but meh, I'd rather just see this threat die.

Though I will say that they are correct about Europe being under a terrorist threat, just not necessarily an Islamic one. The recent riots in France were acts of terrorism. The Madrid bombings were acts of terrorism. Didn't something happen in Holland as well? But Beatles does have a point, the magnitude of the threat is much lower than in the Middle East and Asia. Both in Europe and America, the actual threat to our shores is greatly exxagerated. People in the Middle East are under extreme threat every day, we're unhappy if a terrorist plot is uncovered just once in an entire year. There have been 2 or 3 attacks on the West since 9/11. Compared the literally hundreds of attacks on places in the Middle East since then. So while a terrorist threat does exist to Europe, it's not very large. And while it's probably smaller than the ones faced by America and Britain, the threat to us is alot smaller than the one faced every day by people living in the Middle East.

So most Britons think they are under an Islamic threat. Also, 30% of Americans can't identify America on a world map, and half don't know which year 9/11 took place. What's news?

Beacuse Islamic terrorists have targeted middle eastern governments and targets in the past does not necessarlly mean that these are the only targets of Islamic terror attacks. The attacks on the World Trade center (both 1993 and 2001), 1998 embasy bombings, The various year 2000 plots (such as the plot to blow up LAX that was discovered and disrupted), the London and Madrid transet bombings, the French riots, the civil war Chechnya, the plot to blow up transet tunnels in the US, the attmpted shoe bombing of Richard Reid and the latest plot to blow up airliners over the Atlantic all show that Islamic terrorists are willing to target thier us on our home soil, as well as thier own 'apostate' governmens and forigners in the middle east.

As for my view on the threat levels, the previous 2 pages outline it well. Do you disagree with any of those statements I made individually? It'd be dull to rehash them.

Beatles: It's interesting that nearly everyone 47 and under knew it properly. By my calculator 98.5% of those below 47 knew the answer.

Oh, I forgot to add, Bjorn, that the terrorists' stated goal is to eradicate Israel, and the US for supporting Israel. (And the UK for supporting the US. No doubt the Cook Islands for supporting the UK, but never mind that just now.) That is another reason that Europe cannot really be considered to be under an Islamic extremist threat: they have largely not taken a side in the conflict, not a coherent or strong one anyway.

Not all of the terrorists... Al Quida passed over operations in Israel to go after the United States for crimes other than supporting Israel. Concidering that Bin Laden was a Saudi, the Gulf War (under the old Bush) and the US's (and the coalition of other western nations) placement of troops in Saudi Arabia was also used justification of attacks at the presceved 'crusaiders'. Sure there a lot of terrorists fighting Israel and its supporters, however this isn't the only target of Islamic terrorism. Europe and the United States could still concider themselves the target of Islamic terror orgnizations reguareless of our policy in Israel.

The USSR screwed up Afghanistan, the UK and US contributed to screw up Afghanistan, so why isn't Bin Laden going after Russia? Because they don't support Israel. Heck, the US used to fund him. If that was the only reason, he'd probably be after Russia. No, it's all tied in with Israel, unfortunatley.

The Saudi's greatest market is the US, and they don't want to antagonize them. Perhaps the common citizen disagreed with the collaboration though, is that what you're saying?

Correction, Al Quida does attack Russia. They supported the rebellion in Chechenya, abeit indirectly. See the Wikipedia article on Movladi Udugov. Although only a minority of Chechen rebels support him and his views, he still shows that Islamic terrorist orgnizations are willing to targets with other justifications than the target's supposed support of Israel.

Then again, they also supported the Bosnian campaign, where the justification was much weaker, just that many Albanians were Muslims.
