Have you tried looking for ATI packages in Yast?

Also, I must show you how to add other useful repositories one of these days.

meh. it said ATI drivers for SuSe 10

are you sure the right drivers would be in the default repos beatles?
mandrake, fedora, ubuntu.. none of them could legally include the right drivers for my ATI mobility radeon 9600. now, they had drivers that worked fine with the card, but no 3D accel, so no games
I had to add repos.. I dont remember for mdk, but linva.org for fedora and I think it was the universal repo(s) for ubuntu.. ubuntu was odd in the sheer amount of repos it had..

I don't remember exactly, but I do remember that it /was/ working out of the box for NVIDIA, without me having to add repos or anything. IIRC it downloaded some nvidia.sh and executed it, which downloaded & compiled the driver.

http://en.opensuse.org/Additional_YaST_ ... positories

You can add the repositories for ATI cards there. Or did you already install the ATI drivers?

;) thats not nessisarily a /bad/ thing for SuSe

Fedora and Ubuntu are both excellent distros though
if you feel like putting actual effort into an install slackware and gentoo are supposed to be good

edit: however, I do not sugguest Kubuntu yet.. its.. not quite there imo.
Fedora will let you install KDE or Gnome, but will default to Gnome if you choose default

I'm unhappy as anyone about that, but being rather ignorant of the legal implications, I am awaiting further instructions from RMS. =D No really, I do want someone knowledgeable in the FSF to speak up with advice for SUSE users.
