I concider it rather rude to walk in too late to a class, I draw the line right around ten
then again it depends on the course and professor

for arguments sake lets say the above poll is for an hour twenty min course,
and its assumed college course rather than high school, as there's no real excuse to be late to any but your first period in hs

...Whats this for? XD I agree. If you already late and travel time is gonna be there, then just don't worry. You can always work it out later. Unless its like..Bio, or Chem, Or something hard.

I just missed one of my classes, would have been atleast 9 min late, up to 15 depending on how I timed the two traffic lights and one pedestrian crossing (on my bike)
was working on pulling together some work for the lab after it and didnt watch the time close enough ;)
not a big deal, as its also a distance ed class, and the vid. of the lecture will be online by tomarrow or so (taught oncampus and broadcast live to three other schools, really nice, shiny video equipment)

but I really dont like it when people walk in after the professor has started.. just distracting

I'm just about never late for class, and it really does depend on the class. Last term, I had a class where I would sometimes skip the first part (which was useless lecture), and come about 30 minutes late for the second part (which was this pseudo-lab thing that we got marks for).

I'd say, though, that it would probably take being late about 20 minutes to actually skip... But, with some classes, there's no point going after that point, you'd just be hopelessly lost.

Anything longer than 10 minutes late without a valid reason I would say is taking the mess

If I'm going to be more than 10 minutes late to class, I just don't go. You've missed too much after 10 minutes, and it's just rude to walk in the middle of class like that.

Yeah, it is a bit rude. The strange thing is when people come in half way through...

As I said, I've never really had to experience such a situation. When I came in late, I basically slipped in during a lull, not when the prof was lecturing. Another time, when I ended up late for a 2-hour class that sort of had two parts, I just waited until the first hour was done and the class took a short break.

'course, come to think of it, I do come in "late" to a lot of classes when I've done an exam at the resource centre (I have disgraphia and am permitted a computer for exams) and need to drop it off back in class or when I've run overtime (I also get extra time, hurrah). I see that as more or less justified, though, and usually I actually have to go back to class to drop off the completed exam. I try to be as unobtrusive as possible, though, and the only class where that really happens this term is in a massive room where I can just slip in the back.

What's really weird are people who regularly leave early.

In many of my classes, it's not information I'm getting, but a piece of paper.

It depends on the situation. In HS I was late 4/5 days for my first period class. I would always just barge right in whenever I got there, except in the cases where I was so late that I missed my entire 1.5 hour first period class. Or when I was so late I missed my first and second period classes, break, and the first part of my 3rd period class, but it was rare I was late for 3rd.

In college I had a small AJ class of about 15ish students and on a couple of occasions showed up late (work-related) and never even cared. In a large auditorium I would go if I could slip in discreetly, if not I'm on the 5 minute thing at the most.
I know the voices in my head arn't real but they usually have some pretty good ideas.

gaah!
it must be hard knowing so much beatles that you should be outside the realm of getting information! why not just test out of every class then!

of course, i PAY for my classes and thusly, i absorb every last inch of the interesting, yet sometimes droning, idiotic mumblings of my proffesors.
