I agree with you on that one it does spoil the game especially if its done right from the start of the game however if its done at the end of the set then i would say its a valid defense land should be made more free at the start of the game so everyone has the chance to build up rather then one person grabbing land off others then setting a heavy defense that cant be broken coz ppl havent made the troops up yet to break it <_<

Eh, it's just one of those beginning-of-set ploys. If the player actually knew when to cut out the guards and start building themselves up properly, they probably could do quite well with that as their opening. However, it always seems that they hold on to the land too long, and eventually get crushed.

Whoever it is needs to book their ideas up and share the land because it will get taken sooner or later.

Exactly; it's great for stunting the growth of one's opponents at the very beginning of the set, but, if you don't actually end up doing something with that land, it was all a pointless exercise anyway.

Because he can, you're talking about #7? That guy seems to have dominated BFR. As always, someone will come out and break him.

A waste of turns and attacks. I'd be easier just for the mager to attack for land.

Thats not that hard. Should be plenty of land to scrape up.

Eh, Arty broke him. He mages, so it's harder to break him that way, unless he goes all guards, which I doubt.
