True, Communism and Nazism are fundamentally different. In Nazism you murder others, in Communism you murder your own people.

Well, in practice (with the derivatives of Communism that we've seen), yes.

Yo! I'm not a Nazi. Communism, not racial killing!
So? What you don't seem to realize is that besides the choice of who they kill, as Beatles said, Nazis killed other peoples, Communists killed their own people, there is not real fundamental difference between the totalitarian communism of the USSR and the totalitarian Nazism of Germany before and during WW2. You are promoting a totalitarian Communist dictatorship which is, in substance, not all that different from totalitarian Nazi dictatorship.

It's kind of surprising that any sort of Communist would actually be promoting the failed totalitarian systems, especially when there are the "friendly" (albeit possibly unrealistic [to my mind]) derivatives and most intelligent people with whom you'd enter into a debate with recognize that.

The point Volkov was making is about brainwashing to control the population. And yeah, anytime you have to brainwash people, it's totalitarianism. Even if they volunteer to be brainwashed, they're still being controlled... and nobody volunteers to be brainwashed, especially when you do it with the kids when they're young.

For the record, I wouldn't necessarily be opposed to a "good" communism, where it's all voluntary - a Redwall type thing, for instance. It doesn't work statewide, though - it'd have to be small, Redwall type communities...

I see that Russia has offered to put the missiles in Azerbaijan (east of Turkey) and he was promptly ignored. Geographically speaking it's much better than Poland (but then again, what country isn't?) Although I think Turkey may be a bit better, Azerbaijan aint bad. It's really a shame that Bush won't take him up on it, he could really turn the tables on Putin nicely.

Shush you. :P I was suggesting HE try that. I'm not particularly keen on defending communism. ;)

Anything is nice in theory. National socialism, on the face of it, sounds harmless, right? Basically free-market economy with protectionist emphasis, tight immigration to preserve "cultural" heritage, social democracy.

In execution? Well, we saw what it turned out as...

Crap that first one didn't work, this link talks about it some but at the bottom is a link for a vid with Condi talking about it. Also shows a map of the region, which is worth a thousand words.

Here's audio and it also shows a map of the area.

You seem a bit fixated on Poland. There are 4 or 5 other countries that the US has proposed to put the anti-ballistic missile systems in besides Poland. Putin has suggested that the US put its system in Azerbaijan? I had not read that. As Rudder said, got a link?

I think there was a bit more to National Socialism than that, but yes, on the face of it, it seemed rather harmless. However, not everything is nice in theory, slavery for example, is not nice, even in theory. I suppose indentured servitude is nice in theory, but not in practice, but pure slavery is not nice, even in theory.

I'm actually not promoting the brainwashing thing, just saying it would make communism a power.

And we're saying that it wouldn't. Haven't you just read what we've said.

Isn't communism an economic policy anyway? Not a government type?

It wouldn't though, it would be just like the Soviet Union, which was a nasty derivative of Communism.

It's both.

Correct.

Also, Communist economies will never be successful in the modern world. Two major problems stop their flourishing. First of all there will be a lack of scientific and technological advancements, very few people have a desire to work hard and go to school for 20 years to become a astrophysicist when they can earn the same amount of money by being a sanitation worker. This means societal advance remains stagnant like it did during the Medieval ages. The second is that the government says it will distribute money evenly but who is stopping them from giving themselves a little extra. This greed corrupts nearly all governments of Communist economies and has a chain effect which pulls down the entire society. So yeah... Communism fails.
