Dumbledore being gay doesnt effect anything really, it shouldnt even make his intentions seem less pure. Though it does make you think twice before you say Dumbledore loved Harry as people have dirty minds

Most of the people who are vocally against the books simply havnt read them
There was an article a few years ago where a preacher was extremely against the harry potter books, and when asked if he read them said ofcourse not. There was a followup later where the guy had been persuaded to read the books and apologised

Volkov, I don't know how to read books, but he never seemed gay on the movies. I mean, a gay old wizard is what it would have taken to make me a Harry Potter fan. Does he ever even do any gay shit? Like asking Harry to hold his wand or something?

It's not blatantly obvious, but there were the occasional hints. Like his "close friendships" with other wizards. To Harry though, Dumbledore was like a father, and always acted that way.

I confess I never saw anything of the sort coming. Then again, I'm of the school that considers Holmes & Watson, Pooh & Piglet, Biggles et al, straight. Maybe Rowling is just catering to the modern audience.
