Reserve
1. Not here, not as long as your players leave holes and your code encourages landpassing. "Smacking someone down" is still useful in destroying networth, but it will not stop them from recovering no matter how badly it is done here.
2. Yes, recovering is easy and the Reserve makes it even easier. It's so easy that people do not use the reserve for its' intended purpose, they use it to store networth with severely reduced upkeep. Meaning it is no longer a tool of recovery, it is a netgaining aid.
3. No, it makes the game easier.
I feel like there's some unintentional aggressive tone to my posts, if there is it's just an accidental thing.

Actually Faf is the most defensive server i have ever played on, it seems to me that most players do NOT leave holes.Death wrote: Anyone can recover from anything, FaF and most of Promisance games are loaded with players who leave holes.

1. No, not if the player has a decent idea of the dynamics of defense and is capable of single troop massing. I suppose it could work if kept up over a period of days or weeks and the guy getting smashed was clanned, but for all the effort they would just be better off killing him.Ruddertail wrote: Well, yeah... there's that.
Given that,
1. Is it reasonably possible for a player or coalition of players to really "smack down" a another player, that is, knock his networth down and, through persistent attacks, prevent him from getting it back up again?
2. Does the reserve change the possibility and/or difficulty of such a "smack down"?
3. Is that a positive thing?
2. Yes it does, because the reserve is essentially what the name implies - something to fall back on if you get owned.
3. No, not at all. FAF is already a very defense oriented game, and the reserve takes it a little too far down that road in my opinion.

I'd say the opposite. FaF is very aggressive. The defensive aspect is there, but its been reinforced. However, being able to really grind and push the pedal down is a bit easier here. Thats part of what makes the recovery process easier.3. No, not at all. FAF is already a very defense oriented game, and the reserve takes it a little too far down that road in my opinion.
The reserves don't really add or take away anything. If you were at $200 mil networth, and you get smashed down to 5,000 land and still have $150 mil worth of other net, the reserve doesn't do you a dang thing of good. However, if you have $20mil and get nearly killed, it lets you have a running start at not being killed.

So do we all. That's kinda the make or break point of every run in prom. What's your point here?Death wrote:Every time I run turns I find a hole or weakspot.Alazar wrote:Actually Faf is the most defensive server i have ever played on, it seems to me that most players do NOT leave holes.Death wrote: Anyone can recover from anything, FaF and most of Promisance games are loaded with players who leave holes.

On FAF I play defensive. I almost always leave towers up at the end of my runs, and I never leave gaping holes. It is actually possible to defend effectively solo here, unlike many prom games. Many other players do the same thing. FAF is much more defensive than RWL and Valhall, where the only effective solo defense is a god offense. I don't know much about other proms.
I don't know why you think that, you must just not be looking for them.
Plus, uhm, you don't need to be able to store 25% of a given unit just to recover. lol

Hrm. Well, I'm not exactly sure what the procedure for requesting something be changed, in this sort of situation. I guess... Death, if you want this changed, why don't you go ahead and make a poll in GD, asking, "Remove the Reserve for the reasons noted below: Yes or No?" And then lay out your rationale in the post - it shouldn't be hard, you've about done it here, so just condense it into one post.
Edit: If not, somebody needs to talk to Beatles or Devari about getting the numbers checked.
