Badger's fairly powerful as is - why don't we spiffy up Mouse or Hedgehog instead? Those two get no play.

Badger's already two good at hybriding. Give it decent hawks, and the entire game will be basicly nothing but badger hybrids... Screw it totally for hawks, I would say. Badger's already one of the better indy races.

Doubtful. Badger's indy yield is only mediocre.
And using a hybrid does make hawk-loot either ineffective (huts/land multipler), slow (building shuffling time), and/or risky (chance of losing hawks from too few huts).
But it has the third best attack bonus in the game, and the second best defense, I beleive. Also, going 40/60 barrack/hut with 100 precent mice means you can basicly break anyone in the game. If they're a mouse masser, then you run a bunch of hawk battles on them, which you can afford since you can sell your mice or sack with them for resorces... And with 60 barracks, you should be able to get decent enough hawk-loot yeilds to support your troops, as long as you don't keep two many mice at the beginning of your run.

Well, with 10 mil you could break about anybody right now. I can't remember food costs for those mice, but between foraging, looting and sacking, as well selling troops when they get to be too much, you should be able to support yourself quite easilly. With this, you can take pretty much anybody's resorces...

I'm basing this on theory, not experience. It seems to me that it should work. I can't keep arguing about it. If you really want to prove me wrong, run this strat. Otherwise, wait for me to run it...
