perhaps the cronish tasks embedded in loaduser should be put into an included lib cron script
and maybe crons should be further seperated (into a folder of its own?) for clarity?
-> and also allow more easily for the option of turning cronless on and off

fixed typo on 301 and 302
$min should be $out.. stored turns were being ignored

and maybe the amount of stored turns taken out should be configurable? seems kind of strange for it to only come out one at a time if the server was something like 100 turns every minute

maybe the cronless stuff should be modularized so that a feature can be made to have cron or cronless mode?
just an idea.. because using cron when available can be advantageous
especially with putting in hackish features

Hm... How so? If you want to do a hackish cron-using feature, just run a cron on something not involved in the turns.

Very few things will /truly/ need crons, and for those, you have the global catch-all one.

hm.. i guess you guys are right

the real issue i have is that i dont like the idea of dumping out the old cron method abruptly and embedding cronless into the code
i think it is much safer if it is made a choice.. defaulting to cronless

my gut tells me that there are scalability and safety issues that cron may failsafe
but logically i know that cronless divides up the tasks better and is more scalable
only perhaps some global tasks may be a slight problem.. and i know that those have pretty simple solutions
and even thats assuming that they will need to scale that high up anyways

i guess its just being too overly conservative/worrywart on my part

Well the thought is appreciated. In any case, cronless will not be as stable and tested as cron mode for a loooooong time.

I have an auto installer that installs everything into mysql, and it is totally cronless, but it gives you like turns every 2 hours, but i am sure you can fix it so it will give you so many turns , per every 10 or 20 minutes, without having to do crons . it works well, and it works with everything appearently. with the game i do have up on my forum. I did not have to deal with cron jobs, it just auto resets every two hours giving turns . I am sure you can work the php in that will use this auto installer, plus give you the max stored turn thing .

Thanks, but we've also got what you mention: auto-installer and "virtual" crons... I developed those myself. :D

Well it's really simple: does the dev work just like normal? All time-related stuff: turns, market, raffle, stocks, etc. etc. -- do they work?

Ok, we've got possible problems with stocks and raffle.

Stocks: I logged on about 12:53 game time. Noted the prices of four of the stocks. I refreshed and reloaded the page multiple times. At about 1:01 PM GT. I noted stocks were still the same. However, they had changed from last night. Are we sure they update every hour? Because it looks to me as though they might be updated every 12:00 PM Game Time.

Raffle: It's supposed to update at 12 noon GT every day. However, the news item saying I won is listed as .2 hours ago, and it's 1:08 (13:08) GT. This means it awarded the winnings at about 12:50 GT.
