Yes, it's possible to save a session manually with KDE, and have it load that each time. BUT only through the kicker menu. Thus if you say, don't want kicker, you're screwed. :/

there's the Kasbar (?) panel addon that you can use instead of the xfce iconbox, given thats what you're trying to do, and just shrink kicker down to nothin..
Yes, but it's still running then, isn't it? Anyhoo, I like my xfce4-panel better than kicker, and xfce4-iconbox better than kasbar... although kasbar is more advanced, but uglier.
