I'm trying this game, but I don't really get it yet. Could someone help me out and show what things are important?
Also, it would be nice if some techniques on the game could be shown.

Well, the game guide is insuficient, but should provide a pretty good idea about how to play. Especially if you check out our new guide. (Cleverly labeled "new guide".
)
There are some strategies shown in the Help: Academy, Intoductions, Classroom section. If you look around (some are kind of burried) you should be able to find several.
A basic overveiw:
Basically, the idea is the ammass the highest possible networth, and maintain control of the game, either singlehandedly, or with the backing and aid of a clan.
There are many paths to domination, but they are all based on two basic components: Economy and Army. Your econemy supports your troops. Your troops provide a source of networth (also called net, or NW) as well as a means of gaining and protecting other sources of networth (resources and land.) The troops gain the land on which your econemy operates, so, basically, the more land you gain, the more troops you can have. The more troops you have, the more land you can gain, and so the cycle repeats itself.
Just a tip: Markets and tents are useless unless you're running a casher strat. If you want to run a strat where you produce your own troops, rather then buying them, Orchards (to produce food) and food selling is the way to go, economically. You'll probably need huts (to raise defenses, hawkers (a type of strat based on hawks) can do nasty things to you if you don't), so a basic troop producer strat will have three buildings: Barracks to make your troops, huts to raise defenses (only about 1 - 5% of your total buildings) and Orchards to produce the food that will feed your troops, and be sold to pay them.
That, and the other resources availible (game guide, Help section) should give you a pretty good idea of how to play. Any further questions can be asked here, or directed to me via PM, AIM (SN: ruddertail), or MSN (SN: JacobJ.77@gmail.com).

Can you tell us what race you are? That will help us out a lot. There are 5 basic strategies that people use, or sometimes they will use a combination of more than one. They are indy, cashing, farming, maging, and reselling.
The easiest one here is probably indy although some may say farming.
Indy is making troops and selling them on the bazaar or the market to gain the cash needed to run your empire. If your race has a good bonus to industry (or maybe it's called indy) then this is an ideal strat to use.
Cashing is making money off taxes. Need tents and markets to make this one work. The best race for this is one with a high income bonus.
Maging is making money off a spell called loot. Obviously a high magic bonus is what you're looking for there.
Reselling is done with a race that has a high market bonus and is basically done by buying troops on the bazaar cheaply and selling them on the market for a profit. Bear in mind that selling on the market means it won't sell unless another player comes along and buys it. This is probably not the best for your first time.
Farming is done by selling excess food on the bazaar or the market. And of course this is a good choice if your race has a high farming bonus.
Here's a much more in-depth players guide so check out the brief summary above and pick whichever seems to fit you the best and look up that strat in the guide. The guide is a bit lengthy so don't worry about reading everything all at once, just check out what you need for what you're doing and after you get the hang of it then start checking out other strats.
