FE ( Not Iron XD) is such a cool game. One of the best turnbased games I've ever played.

It's not out yet. But it will be in a little bit. It's gonna be great. I know I, Boar, and a bunch of the long-time elites will be playing this.
It's gonna have graphics. :D
It's gonna start out simple (like the original Warbands) so that newcomers can get adjusted, but it will rapidly get better as each month Caleb will add a ton of new stuff and updates.

Well, the Wheel of Time game didn't work out very well... We'll see. ;)

What code is he basing it on? From scratch?

The Wheel of Time game he just copied and pasted the code from Warbands and changed the names. And he didn't really care about that one.
This one's not just the game, but a whole website as well.
And I'm pretty sure it's going to get pretty popular. Even though he just opened it two days ago, he's already getting 300 unique hits per day. Within a month or two after its release it should have at least 100 members.

I asked if he'd be using the FAF code and he said:
Not to start off. I wanted to make the game as simple and "newb-friendly" as possible, so I stuck with the basic QM Promisance. Once the game's been going a whlie and we have an established player-base, I'll start upgrading to something far more complex.

At its end form, it will hopefully be able to provide a battle experience far more similar to the actual Fire Emblem game, as I plan to eventually implement hero characters and a traversable map.

QM is newb-friendly but FAF isn't? Laughing out loud... he's not lost any of his old craziness, then.

He wants to start it off simple and expand.

Rather his craziness that makes very popular sites than sanity that barely makes it anywhere. :D

*laughs*. Hey, it's Caleb. He gets bored.

Btw, I think I remember him leaving because he got frusterated by someone destroying his forums...

It's the voices. They told me to. They made me do it. They told me that if I didn't.....they might leave.....leave and never come back! I can't live without them....no....can't let them leave.

Heh, we all know just how unstable I am. ;)
Anyways, my main reason for using basic QM over FAF (or RWL) is just for the simplicity of the whole thing. I expect that quite a few people playing the game will have never experienced a Promisance title before, so I'd like to start it in its most basic form.

And I don't want people getting the wrong idea about the thing having "graphics." It'll have a more "graphical" layout by default (as opposed to the basic black image-less one, although people can change it if they wish), and will show animated FE sprites when various actions are performed, depending on the situation. Meaning when your army devastates another, it will display an animated GIF representation of your unit scoring a critical hit on a representation of an enemy unit.
Basic and pretty much useless other than as eye-candy, of course, but I thought it would give it a nice touch.

Ah, nearly forgot to say hello! It's been a while. How's everyone doing?

Hullo, old thing. Haven't seen you in an utter aeon. The title you launched has become somewhat of a success in its own right.

The images you mention are probably easier with templates (which we have in FAF), by adding a new theme and in it changing the HTML for the pages on which you want to introduce images. Of course, even in ours, military.php isn't templatized yet.

I'm actually having a bit of difficulty with said images, at the moment. At the last minute I decided to have different images based on Era and Race (instead of just Unit Type as before), but the $uera and $urace variables just don't seem to like me much.

If anyone's interested in helping me solve this little conundrum, I'd appreciate it. For reference, this is using the Promisance 4.3 codebase.

Basically, over in function Dobattle, I've changed printedreport() to printedreport($type), and then changed the beginning of the printedreport() function to:

code wrote:
function printedreport($type)
{
global $users, $uloss, $uera, $enemy, $eloss, $eera, $landloss, $buildgain, $trplst, $urace;
echo '<img src=images/';
        echo $urace;
echo $uera;
echo $type;
echo '.gif>';

And unfortunately, for example when using the lndtrp type unit, it simply prints as "<img src=images/ArrayArraylndtrp.gif>

I'm probably overlooking something blindingly obvious in my ignorance here, but if anyone has any idea why those variables aren't printing correctly, I'd very much appreciate if they let me know ;)

For reference, since I just realized that it might have something to do with the problem, register_globals is OFF.
