as for me? well, i will respond when the posts come in but i will say up front: NO NO NO, global warming is real, but it isnt man made.
The Dreaded and Overstuffed Global Warming Issue
well, i think that we all have opinions on this as does a vast majority of the scientific community, so! here is a poll and a chance to vent (no Carbon please) your choice, reasonings, cited publications etc...
as for me? well, i will respond when the posts come in but i will say up front: NO NO NO, global warming is real, but it isnt man made.

The Kraken, which is found primarily in Scandinavian myth, was a huge sea creature. It was said to lie at the bottom of the sea for a long time and then it would rest at the surface....Like the Midgard serpent in the Norse myths, the Kraken was supposed to rise to the surface at the end of the world.

there's a myth sheet floating around, I saw it on /. a little while back, I'll get it tomarrow
yes, global warming is a cycle
but are man's contributions effecting the cycle or not?
we screw a lot of stuff up
all the paving, it covers up the earth and causes major flooding where there was none before
all the smoke put off into the atmosphere from cars, rigs, factories, etc.
you cant ignore it, its doing something
what its doing and how bad the effect is is, ofcourse, still being looked at and discussed
to say man's activities over the past hundred years have nothing to do with the climate of the earth is rather asinine

*shrug*
site's down now, should be back up later.
edit: I really shouldnt post when I'm sleeeeeepy... shall look at and fix.. later.

I voted yes, it's real, but I should specify that I'm far more concerned about human pollution in general than global warming itself. You know, all the crap going into the air that we breathe? Sure, global warming is fairly concerning, but what ever happened to putting some effort into dealing with the actual poisons that we're pumping out into the air? Back in the 90s, I remember some concern over air/water/other pollutants, but now "environmental issues" seems more synonymous with "global warming". I hate to sound short-sighted, but, hey, "traditional" pollutants are what's killing us, shortening our lifespans, and damaging the natural environment right now.
I don't think global warming is overblown, but I do think that some equally or perhaps more important environmental issues are being ignored. Unfortunately, "CO2" is just such a great buzzword...

Basically, what I'm saying is that a significant portion of human-caused environmental issues are being virtually ignored by the public in favour of the media circus around global warming.
And, if anyone thinks humans aren't destroying the natural environment (and, thereby, ourselves), I've gotta laugh. That's just indisputable. Maybe that's why the media doesn't like to focus on it, you can't have much controversy about it. It's just the truth.

I kinda think about it like.. Putting salt in water.
Salt being CO2 and water being the Atmosphere.
You can put a ton of salt in, and then it starts to not dissolve. What makes more salt dissolve? The temperature of the water.
The question is, whether or not the "salt" helps to warm the water up faster.
At least in my mind. <.<;

People have mostly forgotten about Earth Day. It used to be huge, now it's an excuse for celebrities to preach about Global Warming. I agree with Devari, global warming is likely human caused, and is definitely happening, but in the uproar about it, we have forgotten the other things we have down to our biosphere, like the mass amounts of pollutants in our oceans, the acid rain resulting from the burning of high sulfur coal in one of the myriad pre-1970 coal fired plants in this country that have no emissions regulations. The issues with the oceans are particularly worrisome, given the enormous importance of them to our lives. Coastal water quality just sucks nowadays, and there are huge dead zones that grow every year.

well heres my view long b4 man was around and when early man was around this planet had gone thru at least 3 ice ages and several warm periods afterwards as well as other drastic climatic changes. saying that however i do believe man is also responsible in some small ways by destroying the planets natural climate control systems such as rainforests and other areas of woodland around the world not being too scientific humans and most other life forms breathe out carbon dioxide as well alot of man made inventions do which trees and and plant life breathe in and in return they produce oxygen the way i see it is there are less trees and more carbon pollutants and so there is no longer an ecological balance. so although mans actions are contributary factor i still believe alot of this is still a natural occurance of the planets climastic change and the fact this planet may actually be orbiting slighty closer to the sun wether or not the experts have looked at this is another question
I'm not mad just the rest of the world is MUAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

The planet is not orbiting any closer to the sun. Nothing has happened that could possibly have caused that. The shape of our orbit may have changed a bit, but that is being pretty constantly monitored.
You have some other misconceptions, I think, but I am having trouble reading your post, so I will refrain from trying to correct them.
Freen, that is not at all how it works. The CO2 molecules absorb heat that would otherwise be reflected back out into space. The CO2 itself is what is causing the warming. Thing is, gases are essentially infinitely soluble from each other, so the temp of the atmosphere has nothing to do with the amount of gases dissolved in it. The Greenhouse effect is real, and there is more CO2 in the atmosphere, the only real remaining question is whether the source of the CO2 is mankind or natural processes. the evidence points to humans being the source of the CO2.

Theres enough substansive scientific evidence to nullify the vailidity of this poll.
Abetter one may have been
Do you care about gw enough to
a)Give a shit
b)Recycle and not drive
c)eco-freindly living and other tree-huggin stuff
dTake down the worlds electrical grid and all the other bad stuff
Im between a and b.
I'll be honest if in a few years when i consider ive lived enough, I wouldnt really care if society crumbled, as i could fulfil my life long dreams of looting, rape and pillage.

I don't know Volkov. I'd believe it once someone does some tests. Can't be that hard...

It doesn't matter whats causing it. My guess is that its gonna happen whether we cause it or not.Kraken wrote:I don't know Volkov. I'd believe it once someone does some tests. Can't be that hard...i am still trying to decipher what this means........

I'd rather be working on what to do when it does/how to minimize the effect on the worlds aminals and people.
