The favorite game of my high-school years, seconded only by Death Rally.

Conflict

It used to crash when nukes were detected in Iraq or Syria on some old computers...

[edit] Score: 275! I was lucky, Egypt collapsed on its own.

No idea, I was at a library computer when I posted that. Downloading now...

Unfortunately, it seems not. :(

Some effort will get it working, no doubt. Did you give it a shot?

I'm reinstalling wine right now, actually. Uninstalled it for some weird reason.

Maybe dosbox or something? There's got to be a way, short of win98/vmware, to run old dos games...

DO NOT try to run it under wine. It made everything wonky...

Ok, the solution is really simple.

1) Install freedos, dosemu, and all dependencies.
2) Run xdosemu.
3) Move the files into a directory in ~/freedos, assuming you "installed" freedos there.
4) cd into the directory and RUN!

No prob. You do need to run xdosbox from the terminal - don't think I specified that. ;)

This is a difficult game! :o

But fun! :D

No, just install the packages through YAST. They should be there. :)

I didn't see any packages labeled 'freedos' in Yast...

[edit] I will say this for Windows, they have great binary compatibility backwards. I launched that 16-year old binary on a WinXP system yesterday and it worked without a hitch, requiring absolutely no user effort. No doubt that will remain true with Longhorn as well.

In actual fact, I do believe that installing dosemu on its own works. I think it comes with a freedos install.

293 and nuked Egypt. Where they suddenly pulled 2000 tanks from is anybody's guess.

Is there a secret to developing nukes? It always tells me two months, but it takes a lot longer.

After I managed to hold off the Egyptian lines for 7 months, they nuked me. Egypt was mean. :(
