I think you should make protection longer. It seems like newbies can't even get started before they're getting attacked. It seems like you get up to about 10,000 acers and people attack you, in the meantime you're not strong enough to do anything about it. So you either try to keep getting land from scouting, or you attack others weaker than yourself, and so it continues.

My suggestion for protection would be 1,000 turns. Once you've used that many, without fighting, you should be well established and be ready to contend, at least in size of warband, if not in skill. Oh, and a problem I noticed, in the news section, where it lists the last hundred events, it only shows hawk attacks, no troop ones.

Since it is possible to leave protection early, this might be a valid idea. I will discuss it, maybe start a poll or something. Maybe protection should be under a certain acreage... or no, actually, just turns used. 1000 seems a lot until you realize that people can leave early if they like. I could add a link to the status bar under turns that says Leave Protection.
